Hyderabad Deputy Commissioner Agha Shahnawaz Babar has directed all the taluka municipal administrations to prepare a contingency plan for cleanliness during the monsoon rainfall and to remove the mounds of garbage from all parts of the district.
The DC issued these directives while chairing a meeting regarding the cleanliness with the TMA officers. He observed the heaps of garbage were not only causing stench and spreading diseases in the neighbourhoods but were also a hurdle in the smooth movement of traffic. Babar also asked the officers not to restrict the cleanliness drive to particular days and weeks of observances but to ensure that the campaign continued all through the year.
He said there were clear directives of the provincial government that the efforts of all the government agencies should manifest themselves in real work which was visible to all. He noted that the piles of garbage, abandoned construction material on roads and streets were causing health issues, interruption in traffic and even blocking the sewer lines leading to spread of sewage puddles in every part of the city.
“The government pays the municipality for maintaining cleanliness in the city,” he observed as a reminder to the officers about the responsibilities.
