Tabloid busts Pakistani Olympic visa racket

A major visa scam, involving a ring of corrupt Pakistani officials and politicians, has been unearthed by a leading UK based tabloid which could give potential terrorists the chance to enter Britain with Pakistan’s Olympic team.
The investigation was centred on the Lahore-based Dream Land travel agency prosecuted nine years ago for human trafficking.
“We infiltrated a crime ring offering false passports, visas and access to London 2012 as bogus support staff. We uncovered a ring of corrupt Pakistani officials and travel staff conspiring with a prominent politician to bypass stringent security,” The Sun which exposed this scam said.
The paper’s undercover investigator was first provided with a genuine Pakistani passport in a false name. Then leading Lahore politician Abid Chodhary spelled out how for around 7,000 pounds he could get our man a two-month visa and smuggle him into London 2012 as part of Pakistan’s Olympic squad.
The Sun secretly filmed Chodhary as he explained how easy it was to get into the Olympic Village by masquerading as a member of the athletes support team.
“We were told we could even take part in Friday’s opening ceremony. At no point did any of the corrupt officials question our reason for wanting to sneak into Britain.
“An investigation was under way yesterday after we alerted MI6, the Home Office, the UK Border Agency and the British High Commission in Islamabad,” the paper reports.
One intelligence operative said: The paper has unearthed a sophisticated network of corruption.

  1. What a shame. Every scandal which involves money or terrorism finds it source in Pakistan. Poor Pakistani pay the price because of a very poor image of Pakistan internationally, however, the rich and influential get richer by day as they are above the law.

    • Failure of Government and Governance.

      These are few bad eggs who need to be named and shamed. Majority of Pakistanis are gentle and sensible people.

      • Sadly when you travel abroad, they dont see you are from Majority of Pakistanis or you are one of the bad eggs in Pakistanis, what matter there is a Green Passport!

Pakistan will not be the only country going to Olympics, and its certainly not the only country where crooks always use events such as olympics, worlds cups for visa scams! Its also not the first time events are used for visa scams, but its surprising Sun has only picked up and exposed Pakistani gangs. Like they dont exist in Romania, India, Bangladesh, China etc. Then linking to security situation – to make it a big story! nothing else.

  24. I was expecting such an issue. After all it is an international even and Pakistan is the most soft and favorite target, like on tabloid did it sometime back and sent couple of our star cricket players to jail.
