Urging the US to pursue a policy of mutual respect and mutual trust with Pakistan, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Nawaz Sharif said only such a policy could restore cooperation between the two countries and thereby serve the cause of peace and stability in the region. Nawaz made this remark during a farewell call on him by outgoing US Ambassador to Pakistan Cameron Munter. The PML-N president emphasised the need for the US to re-orient its policies towards Pakistan in a manner that strengthens the country’s democratic institutions and decrease its economy’s dependence on foreign aid. Munter spoke of his admiration for the people of Pakistan adding that he was deeply impressed by the enormous changes taking place in the country which made him confident that it was headed in the right direction.
