Free polls vital for Pakistan: Ebrahim

The new Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Justice (Retd) Fakhruddin G. Ebrahim said it is the first and the last goal of his life to hold free and fair elections.
Talking to media after taking oath as Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) of Pakistan at the premises of Supreme Court (SC), Justice Fakhruddin said, “don’t consider my age. Look at my work,” adding that free and fair elections are vital for Pakistan.
Supreme Court judges, Secretary Election Commission and lawyers in large number attended the oath-taking ceremony.=
It should be mentioned that the oath-taking ceremony was earlier scheduled to take place on Friday which was later postponed until today on Ebrahim’s request.

    Free polls are vital for Pakistan and they should sooner than later. There has to be another round of elections this side of four years and then one can expect that a mature leadership of a certain standing will emerge.
