5 KILLED IN VIOLENCE, 13 ARRESTED

At least five persons including a woman were killed and several others injured in fresh spate of target killings in different localities of the city on Sunday. The police arrested 13 culprits during separate search operations on charges of extortion, kidnapping and killing.
According to police, unknown armed men shot a woman dead identified as Areeba in Lyari area of the city. Police said the incident could be an outcome of family disputes or personal enmity.
The police recovered a bullet-riddled and tortured body of an unknown person from Baldia Town. The body was shifted to hospital for postmortem. Some unidentified persons opened fire in Gulistan Johar area and killed a man.
The police recovered two bullet-riddled dead bodies from Shershah area. Police said the victims were gunned down after kidnapping them.
Another person, Jumma, was injured in fire exchange between two rival groups at Al-Asif Square and succumbed to wounds in hospital.
Meanwhile, police arrested nine persons including key accused, Abdul Qadir, of Sohrab Goth armed clash. Earlier on Saturday, an armed clash took place between two rival groups over a financial issue in Sohrob Goth area of the metropolis. Some five people were killed from both sides during hours-long armed battle in presence of law enforcement agencies. An SHO of Sohrab Goth Police Station, Sultan Maqsoon, was also injured during rival groups’ exchange of fire in the clash.
Relatives of the deceased persons staged a protest at Sohrab Goth and demanded an immediate arrest of culprits and chanted loud slogans against the killings.
Police also arrested 47 suspects involved in different crimes from different areas of the city.
