A special team of Punjab Health Department on Saturday seized stolen government medicines worth millions of rupees from a truck stand in Gujranwala and started investigation.
Punjab Health General Director Dr Nisar Ahmed Cheema said that they were informed that medicines worth millions of rupees were available at a truck stand in Gujranwala, upon which, he constituted a special raiding team consisting of Punjab Pharmacy Director Ayyaz Ali Khan, District Officer Health Gujranwala Dr Mahjabeen and Area Drugs Inspector Ahmed Tariq who, with the help of local police and EDO Health Gujranwala, conducted a raid and recovered the medicines.
Cheema said that preliminary investigation revealed that the medicines had been booked from Lahore and some of these medicines carried a stamp of Lahore General Hospital while some carried stamps of District Government Gujranwala or government property.
He further said that a high-level inquiry committee is being constituted for complete investigation of this scandal of stolen government medicines. He said that the recovered medicines have been taken into government custody.
