Q&A with Qurat-ul-ain, a new designer for young women

Q. What does QT’S stand for?

A. QT’S stands for my passion to create something that is new, unique, represents quality yet affordability for people like myself. However as far as the name is concerned, it is to connect with young girls between the ages of 5 to teen.

Q. What was the idea behind launching a brand for girls of ages 5 to teen?

A. Being the mother of two young girls myself I always struggled with limited availability of options that were there in the market. And if you do find a dress that is acceptable the prices were such it would make the decision to buy really difficult. Many of my friends also complained about the same which prompted me to do something about it and hence I decided to bring a brand which is good in quality and variety yet affordable.

Q. What kind of experience do you have to make designer dresses?

A. Unlike many such interviews that you may have conducted and I have read I am not going to claim that I have had this passion for last many years or took diploma in fashion designing. The truth is that it’s all instincts, knowing what to do with colors and as they say “necessity is the mother of all creations” so I may not be your typical designer but that’s probably that’s what makes my dresses unique!

Q. What is so unique about the dresses that you
have created?

A. I was hoping that you would ask this, for one thing there are no 2 dresses in one design in each size so there won’t be anyone else in same age/size wearing the same dress. Secondly I do not get my designs by imitating others. These are all original ideas and made with the thought of creating something that would look good on girls. The fabric and stitching quality is simply the best you can get making sure comfort is not compromised.

Q. What is the USP of your brand opposite others?

A. There is no designer in Pakistan that targets and focuses only on this segment hence you can call me a specialist in this category with many options to choose from.

Q. What is the truth behind your claim of affordability obviously profitability is what everyone looks for?

A. You are right no business can survive without profitability however if it is reasonable it becomes more sustainable. My concept behind this venture was to take advantage of economy of scale – let me explain if anyone wanted to make any one of these dresses it will cost the same as they can buy from me. My earnings come from what I save on buying and stitching in bulk.

Q. When is your exhibition and what should we expect?

A. The exhibition is on the 27th and 28th of July at Xinhua Mall Gulberg and trust me whatever your expectations are you will find those met there.

Q. What are your plans after the exhibition?

A. I have plans to do a same one in Karachi next time and subsequent to that you can expect my first flagship shop here in Lahore.

Q. Tell us something about yourself?

A. Well I have a background of doing BS with double math and physics and then Masters in Physics from Government College Lahore. Married with three kids, two girls and a boy and my husband who supported me through this venture works in a multinational company
and has textile background that helps with my line of work.
