Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf on Saturday said political leaders of the country were “pro-Pakistan” and he would contact them all to solicit their views on matters of national importance at an appropriate time.\ “All political leaders are pro-Pakistan and genuinely desire that the country march on a trajectory of peace, prosperity and stability, under a strong democratic system,” he said. He added that the politicians of the country know the “art of possible” and the recent unanimous selection of the Chief Election Commissioner was the physical manifestation of their acumen and commitment through democratic practices. Maintaining that the Pakistani politicians have learned from history, the prime minister said, “Together we would overcome the challenges with the same spirit in the future as well. They are not going to repeat the same mistakes, come what may.” Ashraf said that the current democratic era in the country was passing through an evolution and a degree of ups and downs were inevitable, but he was optimistic that the system would become stable with the passage of time. Democracy in Pakistan was strong and stable because the people of Pakistan were fully convinced that the solution to all ills was in pursuing a strong democratic setup, he maintained and added that democracy was at the heart of ideological and intellectual foundations of Pakistan.

  1. Lies lies and more lies.Pervaiz Ashraf, how can you lie with a straight face to the people of Pakistan and sleep at night. You will face the wrath of ALLAH one day,I promise you that.

  2. Ofcourse politicians want democracy. Thats the only way they can loot the country. What exactly has democracy given Pakistan? The politicians get rich. The poor suffer and there is no middle class. They jiayalas, out of pure stupidity, keep voting for ppp. The pml workers are just trying to hold on to the past. Both party workers have become so used to serving their leadership that they have forgotten how to think independently. Politicians want what suit them and democracy suit them just fine because they can make laws to give themselves immunity no matter what they do. Just wait untill a real General comes along. They will scatter like cockroaches.

  3. What a stupid statement. Ofcourse politicians want democracy. This legitimizes their crimes. If this is the best statement Ashraf could give then it only shows the intellect level of all ppp leadership. These people confirm our suspicions that they are retarded and should be committed to a mental ward (hopefully outside of Pakistan-maybe Somalia).

  4. Hahahaha..strong democracy is directly proportional to corruption…lagy raho munna bahi…

  6. The sacrifice of the world famous leader and chairperson of the PPP, Shaheed Benazir Bhutto, for democracy and the country in 2007 strengthened the PPP, and hence it came into power after over eight years’ government of the general-cum-president, Pervez Musharraf. This was the time when all political parties of the country had to welcome the PPP and play their role in addressing the socio-economic, law and order, poverty, corruption and energy crisis issues. It was time to join hands with the PPP to bring many constitutional amendments to curb the entry of army dictators into politics and their favourite practice of dissolving democratically elected governments, but that happened only partially.
In Pakistan, the role of opposition parties in the past has been to create impediments for the democratic set-up with the apparent intention of getting a chance to rule through an undemocratic intervention. This merely reduces the delivery capability of the government and paves the way for army generals to take over. It is time all opposition and ruling parties and the apex court learn that it is the unity and consensus of all parties and the judiciary that can stop future army takeovers and lead Pakistan towards economic progress and an improved image in the world.
