CID Deputy Superintendent Police Israr Awan and his bodyguard were injured when unidentified armed men opened fire on their van here on Saturday. According to police sources, DSP Israr Awan was on his way to office from home when he came under attack in Patel Para. The DSP and his guard were rushed to a hospital. Meanwhile, Karachi police on Saturday conducted raids in different areas of the city and arrested 39 accused involved in robbery, extortion and other crimes. Talking to media persons, SSP District West Amir Farooqui said police conducted raids in different areas and took into custody four extortionists. He said the culprits were arrested from new and old truck stands in Maripur area who were involved in snatching goods’ trailers from Northern By-pass. Two Kalashnikovs and two pistols were also recovered from their possession. SSP Central Asim Qaimkhani told media persons that police had arrested 35 suspects including seven absconders from different areas during the search operation. Stolen motorcycles, mobile phones and drugs were also recovered from their possession, he added.
