Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Punjab President and State Minister Imtiaz Safdar Waraich has said that the victory of Abdul Qadir Gilani from NA-151 showed the confidence of masses in PPP and its leadership.
Talking to the media while celebrating the PPP’s victory outside the Lahore Press Club on Friday, he said it proved that the PPP was the largest and most popular party of the country. He said the PPP had defeated the opposition parties as the PML-N, PTI and Jamat-e-Islami were supporting the other candidates in the constituency. Warraich said photographs of PML-N leaders Nawaz Sharif and Shahbaz Sharif, PTI leaders Imran Khan, Javaid Hashmi and Shah Mahmood Qureshi, and Jamat-e-Islami leader Liaqat Baloch with the defeated candidate was a proof of coalition of these parties.
He said the PPP had won almost all by-polls which showed the people were with the PPP and its leader President Asif Ali Zardari. Waraich said some elements were demanding early elections but they should learn a lesson from the results of the recent elections.
He said the next general elections would be held in March 2013 and the PPP would win the next general elections. He said Imran and Nawaz had joined their hands against the PPP in the elections but they both usually spoke against each other in public gatherings. Earlier, he congratulated PPP Co-Chairman President Asif Ali Zardari, Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, former prime minister Yousuf Raza Gilani and workers of the party on the victory. PPP Punjab General Secretary Haji Aziz-ur-Rehman Chan, PPP Punjab Information Secretary Raja Amir Khan, PPP Punjab Deputy Information Secretary Iqbal Sialvi, PPP Lahore General Secretary Zekria Butt and PPP Lahore Information Secretary Abid Siddiqui were also present.
