Pakistan has provided Afghanistan with key “intelligence information” on the hideouts of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) in Kunar province, demanding their complete elimination and effective measures by Afghan National Army (ANA) and NATO troops for the prevention of cross-border militant attacks in Pakistani frontier regions of Dir, Bajaur and Chitral.
The intelligence information on Maulvi Fazlullah-led TTP faction, also known as ‘Swat Taliban’, was provided by Pakistani officials to their Afghan counterparts during the daylong visit of Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf to Afghanistan on Thursday, diplomatic sources said on Friday. Fazlullah and dozens of his followers crossed over to Afghanistan and took refuge in Kunar and other nearby regions after they faced defeat at the hands of Pakistani Army in Swat in 2009.
The Swat Taliban spent some months in silence, but of late, they have resorted to deadly acts of subversion targeting Pakistani border posts in Dir, Chitral and Bajaur, killing several soldiers deployed there, causing great anger and anguish among the top civilian and military cadres in Islamabad.
“Prime Minister Ashraf’s delegation that visited Kabul also included senior security and intelligence officials, who shared vital information on the presence and hideouts of Fazllullah-led Taliban in Kunar with the Afghan authorities in Kabul,” a source seeking anonymity said.
He said the prime minister also raised the contentious issue of cross-border militant attacks in Pakistani border areas with Afghan President Hamid Karzai in the presence of British Prime Minister David Cameron, who was also in Kabul to attend the trilateral meeting with Pakistani premier and the Afghan president.
“Pakistani officials conveyed deep concern prevailing in the Pakistani capital over the repeated attacks by TTP militants on border posts of Pakistan Army and also the inability of Afghan army and NATO forces to prevent these assaults,” he said. He said Pakistani officials demanded strong and immediate action by troops of its allied nations in Afghanistan against the TTP hideouts, warning that the continuation of the terror strikes would have negative impact on the ties between Islamabad, Kabul and NATO capitals. A security official said following the attacks in the country’s border regions, some important steps had been taken by the Pakistan Army to beef up security arrangements that would help counter the possible terrorists’ strikes effectively. He said Pakistan was in close contact with Kabul and NATO states, including the US, on the cross-border attacks and it had been assured that those nations would take all possible measures to prevent the assaults by militants in Pakistani frontier regions.

  1. Kunar has been the center of launching terrorist activities deep inside of Pakistan after the rooting out of terrorists in Swat, which was collaborated with foreign secret forces, notably the Indians. Pakistan army played a heroic role in this effort in 2009.Pakistan has not been properly handling this new threat. Of and then Pakistani forces receive losses there. There had been a heavy loss recently and the inhumane cruelty of beheading of human being took place in Kunar. NATO forces must understand the deadly consequences of such happenings. It is the responsibility of NATO and the Afghan Government to eliminate the menance of the cross-border terrorism. Before stopping the cross-border terrorism, stability is not possible for Afghanistan to achieve. After over three-decade of blood-shed, the civil society of Pakistan and Afghanistan and that of the international community should come forward to build a durable peace in Afghanistan that would also harmonize the environment along the FATA region and inside of Pakistan. In this perspective, the Afghan Government must cooperate with Pakistan. Dr Ahmad Rashid Malik – Islamabad.

    • why should the International Community do anything for Pakistan? What has Pakistan done for the International Community? Afghanistan doesn't need to cooperate with Pakistan its the other way around. Since the 'Partition' Pakistan has been nothing but a nuisance. 'They' lie, cheat, steal, etc., coupled with your arrogant presumptuous manner why don't you and fellow Pakistani's go to Kunar and 'root out' the so called threat to Pakistan. It is Pakistan that is hanging by a thread not Afghanistan. Go fix Pakistan.

    • Well said dear Dr but the problem is the same as Pakistan claim. If pakistan can not take any action against those Afghan Militants who have save haven in Waziristan and consider them its assets and make an excuses of (lack of capicity-difficult border), then how can pakistan expect the action from Afghan newly established army.I think the main problem is the sense of good and bad taliban. If pakistan pereive afghan's taliban (good taliban) then how can it prevent others to perceive pakistani's taliban (good taliban). I think every action has reaction.

    • well said Dr.Saib.i am strongly disagree with your one point "Afghan Government must cooperate with Pakistan to eliminate the terrorists who carried out cross border attacks' it is can be rightly say in this "Pakistan should play its sincere role as partner with US on the issue of war on terror to eliminate the Terrorists from root.the Pakistan should give up the differences b/w good and Bad taliban and stat to treat all of them with irony and bring peace and harmony in the region. How Pakistan demanded from Afghan Government to stop the such attacks because the all these Terrorist were produce by Pakistan Zia era with Help ISI Head Himaid Gul and developed them to Afghanistan and fight the proxy war of USA against Russia.yet now,Pakistan's Establishment is backing and supporting the one terrorists group named " Haqqani network" to carry on fight against NATO forces in afghanistan.it is the prime responsibility of Pakistan to take measure in this regard and stop the cross border attacks being a atomic power country with well established the army.

  2. I think by now it is clear to everyone that not only FATA, but also Major Pakistani cities and towns such as Abbottabad etc have been the breading ground for the terrorists. Claims like this can not save Pakistan for what it has been doing to murder and abuse poor Afghans giving them the name of Jihad. The only way out for Pakistan is to be honest and not support terrorism to murder countless innocent people. Some people in Pakistan openly support the Taliban who murder innocent Afghans daily, but they call TTP a terrorist Organization. Why is Pakistani Government not stopping those people instead of blaming Afghanistan. How would the people in Pakistan feel if someone in the Afghan Media calls the TTP freedom fighters? — this is the way local Afghan feel about Pakistan, every time someone in Pakistani media supports the Afghan Taliban

  3. All theories and no action. We all seem to be experts on Afghanistan without having been there and have ultimate expertise about pakistan without doing anything other than cursing the Govt. Unless we all collectively and effectively take action to elimminate the enemy within sucess is impossible. The state has failed us but let us not fail ourselves. The picture on the top depicts a coward . We are indeed cowards when we prefer to burn women and mental people for crimes not proven. Let us rise to the occasion and prove that we can take care of ourself. We are 180 milliom strong.
