A larger bench of the Supreme Court (SC) has been constituted to hear the petitions filed against Contempt of court law 2012, media reports said on Friday.
The five-member larger bench comprises Justice Shakirullah Jan, Justice Tasadduq Hussain Jilani, Justice Jawwad S. Khwaja and Justice Khilji Arif Hussain and is headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Iftikhar Muhammed Chaudhry.
The apex court has already appointed July 23 as the date to commence the hearing 13 constitutional petitions filed against the law of contempt.
It should be mentioned that the government led by Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) rushed through the passage process to get the contempt law adopted by both Senate and National Assembly to save the new prime minister a disqualification bid by the court.
The petitions requested the court to make respondents the federal government, prime minister, senate chairman and national assembly speaker.
The court has called Attorney General of Pakistan Irfan Qadir to assist the court in the case.
Why a bench? CJ Chaudhary has already given advance verdict at a function in Karachi.
This is the tragedy. He is a maniac. On top of that a corrupt man. If he is so fond of politics, why does he not quit and enter politics? This man stinks.
Every matter which can put an elected Government on defense, our SC is not hesitant for a sec to initiate proceedings in a "rush"….. in a "hurry" …. and with a "bang"…..
wonder why the opposition is crying over a passed bill in a hurry ….. what does opposition has to say when things are dealt in a more aggressive speed in SC???? point for thinkers..
Well done to SC for initiating this. This is utterly against the people of Pakistan and as such should be negated.
Finally a prayer: Death to every jiyala.
Supreme Court ought to constitute a larger bench when reviewing legality of legislation passed by Parliament. There is no doubt that SC has the authority to review the legislation but to give its verdicts legal as well as moral legtimacy it ough to be reviewed by quite a large bench if not full bench.
Yes keep up this soap opera while state in withering away.
