Another six bite the dust

At least six persons including a woman and two robbers were killed while several others injured in separate incidents of violence in different localities of the city on Thursday. Meanwhile, police and Rangers arrested 143 suspects during a joint targeted search operations in different areas of the city.
According to police, unknown gunmen shot Abdur Rehman dead who was Imam of Muhammedi Masjid located at crossroads of Walika and Banaras in SITE area. The body was shifted to Civil Hospital for postmortem. After the incident, entire areas of Banaras and SITE came under intense tension.
The police recovered limb-tied body of a youth identified as Asif from rubbish in Garden Area of the Shoe Market. The deceased was a resident of Usmanabad.
In another incident, armed robbers barged into the house of Riaz located in Godhra Society near Sohrab Goth and tied him with ropes. The miscreants shot his wife Ansar Bibi dead, who resisted the saboteurs in their attempt. The deceased was mother of four.
In Landhi No 6, two armed robbers barged into a sweets shop and started looting cash. Upon resistance, the robbers shot a customer dead named Shakir Hussain. The shopkeepers and passersby caught the robbers and after brutal torture shot at them leaving them injured. The injured robbers were shifted to Jinnah Hospital where both succumbed to wounds. At least seven citizens were injured in various incidents of firing in different localities of the city.
Meantime, a bomb disposal squad compiled a preliminary report on Buffer Zone bombing. According to the report, 1.5 kilograms of explosives was used in the blast. The remote-controlled bomb was planted by a roadside at pavement.
According to West Zone SSP Amir Farooqui, police and Rangers conducted raids in Orangi Town, Pirabad, Manghopir, Saeedabad, SITE Area, Banaras, Mauripur, Baldia Town and Pak Colony and arrested 143 suspects involved in target killing, extortion and other criminal activities.
The SSP said the suspects were arrested under Section 54 and they were being interrogated. It is to be noted here that several city areas are continuously suffering from target killing, extortion and other violence incidents.
The Rangers during a targeted operation in C-1 Cemetery and Asl-Asif Square areas in Sohrab Goth took into custody over 13 suspected people. The captured miscreants were shifted to an undisclosed location for interrogation.
