Two banks were robbed in separate incidents on Thursday in broad daylight. A security guard and his accomplices stole Rs 4.5 million from Allied Bank Ltd in Township area. According to the police, the heist took place right after a change of guards. The accused, Nijat Hussein and his accomplices held the security guards and staff at gunpoint and collected Rs 4.5 million in cash and escaped. The robbers were speaking in Pashto so the bank staff could not understand. The accused had been working at the bank as a security guard for a month and a half. In a separate incident, four robbers looted Rs 5.5 million in cash from a UBL bank at Ghazi Chowk. The police say that robbers entered the bank, held the security staff at gunpoint and proceeded to loot the bank. Both these incidents happened within three hours. The police registered separate cases and have started an investigation. Both the gang of robbers took the CCTV footage with them. “We have arrested the owner of the security company that provided the guard in the Allied Bank robbery and we will catch the other gang of robbers soon too,” Township ASP Fida Hussain said while talking to reporters. This incident comes as no surprise, since dacoits have been running loose all over the city in the past month. Just one week ago, robbers held the security staff at gunpoint UBL bank Kot Lakhpat, and held customers and staff as hostages while they proceeded to rob the bank of Rs 1.7 million. While the footage of the criminals was found on CCTV cameras, there is no word over their arrest.
