Sindh police has decided to utilize the services of police `Quomi Razakar’ (PQR), City Wardens and scouts in addition to the traffic police personnel for ensuring effective traffic arrangements during the month of Ramzan.
The decision was taken at a meeting held under the chairmanship of IGP Sindh Fayyaz Ahmad Laghari at the Central Police Office (CPO), a police spokesman said on Wednesday.
The meeting was attended by Additional IGP Karachi Iqbal Mehmood, Additional IGP Traffic Syed Zakir Hussain, DIGP Headquarters, CPO, DIGs of South, East, West Zones, DIGP Traffic Khuaaram Gulzar and AIGP Operations Sindh Naeem Shaikh.
Fayyaz Laghari directed DIGP Traffic to ensure coordination with the relevant authorities to have at disposal the services of City Wardens and Scouts for specific traffic duties during Ramzan. IGP Sindh also directed to coordinate with the city administration ensuring removal of encroachments from the roads/footpaths for smooth flow of traffic ahead of Ramadan.
DIGP Traffic informed the meeting that traffic contingency plan had been prepared and issued under which the city had been divided into four sectors:
1. Merewether Tower to Quaidabad.
2. Eidgh chowk to Sohrab Goth.
3. Guru Mandir to Nagan chowrangi.
4. Habib Bank chowrangi, SITE to Moach goth.
The step had been taken to ensure clear passage to motorists and given proper diversion to the vehicular traffic especially during Namaz and Taraveeh timings, he said.
He further informed that the city administration had given its assurance to provide more than 500 City Wardens to traffic police for performing duties during the holy month.
IGP Sindh also took serious notice over the killings in Karachi, reported kidnappings, extortion incidents and bank docoities and asked the additional IGP Karachi to submit a report envisaging the police measures so far adopted besides making comprehensive steps to control such heinous crimes against the common man.
He also directed for ensuring strict departmental action against the SHOs who failed to produce results.
He further directed to improve the functioning of Madadgar 15 Centers and to establish more such centers in the city.
He said that trained staff be deployed at the centers to ensure timely police action in case of any complaint.
Fayyaz Laghari asked further for devising a mechanism into investigation of registered cases. He said that dedicated officers be deputed at district/police stations level to undertake investigation of registered cases for their logical completion.
“All Zonal DIGs should monitor the progress of investigation of cases on regular basses and take action against slack and irresponsible police officers” he added.
