The Supreme Court on Thursday resumed the hearing in the NICL corruption case.
A three-judge bench of the apex court comprising Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Justice Jawwad S Khwaja and Justice Khilji Arif Hussain was hearing the case regarding alleged corruption in the affairs of the National Insurance Company Limited, a private TV channel reported.
Criticising the FIA’s performance, the chief justice inquired Director General FIA Fayyaz Leghari as to why the agency was slow to recover the money.
Chief Justice warned that if the FIA failed to recover the money, the case would be forwarded to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).
FIA’s Director Legal Muhammad Azam Khan told the bench that the only recovery remaining in the case was worth Rs480,000,000 and that it was to be made from Lahore.
Khan told the court that an FIR had been registered against members of the Warraich family after their cheques bounced.
He further said that a five-year agreement had been made with the Warraich family over the recovery of some Rs420,000,000.
