An accountability court in Rawalpindi has reopened references against the Sharif brothers on the recommendations of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) for their involvement in corruption cases. The court has also summoned record from the NAB over three alleged corruption references against the Sharifs. Judge of Rawalpindi Accountability Court, Chaudhary Abdul Haq has issued notices to the parties concerned and has asked them to appear before the court on July 28. The petition to open corruption references against the Sharif brothers was filed by NAB Chairman Fasih Bukhari. The applicant has asked to reopen delayed references against the Sharif brothers in cases of Hudaibyah Paper Mills, Ittefaq Foundry (both Wilful Loan Default cases) and Raiwind Farmhouse (Assets Beyond Known Sources of Income case). These references were filed during Gen Pervez Musharraf’s reign but were not taken up by the accountability court for one reason or another. In the past, former deputy prosecutor general, Zulfiqar Bhutta, had also requested the court to hear these references but the hearing was not held. Proceedings in the cases were adjourned sine die by the accountability court in 2001 when the brothers were in exile. After their return to the country, NAB filed an application in 2007 reopening the cases. The application was accepted but in 2010 the cases were adjourned sine die by the accountability court which directed that the trial could be commenced if an application signed by NAB’s chairman was submitted before the court. The incumbent NAB chairman constituted a special committee to revisit all cases pending against politicians.

  1. I hope these crooks are hanged! They maliciously prosecuted their political opponents for decades!

  2. Yes to above but we also need to spread the word about the corrupt that is Sharif family.

And we need to stop voting for them, be it Nawaz, Shabaz & his son.

  3. On one side PMLN leaders say Sharifs were mega rich from 1930’s. And on the other side they say all the present wealth is created from the money borrowed from the banks. So where the billions Sharifs had for decades disappeared? Those billions invested in assets which are not disclosed? If this is not the case, it is the responsibility of PMLN to provide the proofs how massive wealth disappears in thin air? If they are invested with different names in properties or are kept hidden in the banks without disclosing it in the assets register and to Pakistanis around the world then two things are certain. One Sharif’s are guilty of lying in official records and should face disqualification from holding public offices. Secondly they had been constantly lying to the nation. In any case Sharifs and PMLN leadership has to either withdraw their claims of wealth in the past or produce the evidence where it is now? They should also be asked to provide details of their expenses, including expenses to run vast Raiwind Palace, Nawaz Sharif’s travels, security, medical expenses etc. It is for them to show conclusive proofs of incomes to meet those expenses. Time of empty title tattle is over we need to see the proofs. Many things PMLN leaders tell the audiences around the world do not add up. It is their responsibility to either show the proofs and explain their statements or withdraw them.
