Rawalpindi schools are facing shortage of teachers despite the recruitment drive of the Punjab government in the province.
More than 100 girls’ schools in the districts have one teacher for a large number of students. This situation is adversely affecting the quality of education in the schools while teachers are reluctant to get posted in schools situated in rural and fur-flung areas. The education department is helpless in the face of political patronage of teachers. Naseem Iqbal, the district officer of elementary schools for girls, prepared a list of all the girls schools where only one teacher is teaching as opposed to 40 students per teacher formula of the Punjab government.
Far flung schools are present in seven tehsils of Rawalpindi district. When any teacher is posted in theses areas, political pressure is used to stop the posting.
The number of the teachers in the city is already high; the need of the hour is to post teachers to these schools.
Naan price rises : Before the advent of holy month of Ramadan, the price of bread has risen by Rs 1 in the twin cities. As per details, Ramadan would start within two days while naan bakers have increased the rate of naan by Rs 1 in Islamabad. The residents have complained that no action is being taken by the authorities concern despite their claims of checking rates during the holy month. They have demanded the authorities take serious action against profiteers.
Traffic problems exacerbate in twin cities: Traffic problems in the twin cities have exacerbated due to the negligence of the authorities concerned which pay no heed to address the issue. According to details, during the last few years, number of vehicles plying on different roads of the federal capital has increased resulting in traffic problems due to poor management by the authorities. Hundreds of commuters who come from Rawalpindi to access their offices face severe traffic problems.
