Conflicting reports have come to the fore regarding the number of militants that attacked the district security police at Bannu city as a secret agency has claimed that a total of five miscreants were involved in the attack.
According to an intelligence report, two out of five militants were killed during the encounter with police personnel while the other three succeeded in escape. But police authorities on Monday claimed that only two burqa-clad militants were involved in the attack. The secret agency has also claimed that four personnel of security forces detained for interrogation have already been set free. However, one civilian apprehended from inside the building is still in the custody of the security forces.
They also claimed that only three security personnel were injured during the attack. But the Taliban militants, through a spokesman, claimed killing more than 15 security personnel. The spokesman also claimed that around 50 personnel were present inside the building during the attack, which according to him was successfully accomplished.
Meanwhile, at least five suspected militants were killed in a retaliatory action by Pakistan Army at Naway Dhand area of Thall in Hangu district during the early hours of Tuesday after terrorists fired two rockets on security force’s checkpost, official sources said on Tuesday. According to security force sources, suspected militants of banned Tahrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) fired two rockets on Frontier Constabulary’s check post, partially damaging it, from mountain’s peak; however, it did not cause any loss of life. In response, the army retaliated with full power and killed five militants and forcing others to flee. Later search operation was also launched in the area to nab the fleeing militants but no arrest could be made. The incident took place only a day after the Chief Minister Khyber Pukhtunkhwa escaped a terror bid in the same city. Police seized on Monday a truck from Hangu road laden with 200kgs of explosive material minutes before the CM’s convoy passed through.
