Commissioner of Karachi Roshan Ali Shaikh on Monday said that Karachi was among the eight most polluted cities in Asia.
He said this on his return from a visit to Britain.
He was of the view that if this trend was not checked, Karachi might top the list in coming future.
The commissioner said that during his visit some important agreements were inked with various renowned organizations, which included the disposal of 9,000 tons of garbage daily and generation of electricity from the same garbage.
He said this project would contribute towards tackling the problems of pollution and at the same time generation of electricity would also be ensured. A statement on Sunday said that Commissioner Karachi had visited Britain with Sindh Governor Dr Ishrat ul Ebad Khan, Federal Minister Babar Khan Ghauri, Provincial Ministers Pir Mazhar ul Haq, Dr Sagheer Ahmed, Raza Haroon, Faisal Subzwari, Administrator Karachi Muhammad Hussain Syed and Managing Director Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) Misbahuddin Farid.
The Commissioner praised the efforts and guidance of the Sindh Governor Dr Ishrat ul Ebad Khan.
He said that agreements inked during the visit were a proof of the government’s efforts for the betterment of the people and for providing relief to them besides contributing towards checking the problem of pollution.
All these gentlemen had a nice time in the United Kingdom. More that 80 percent of the entourage was in audience with their spiritual leader who is living in Edgware Road in London. The senior minister was touring Scotland and I am not sure what was Commissioner of Karachi and other gentleman who is Administrator of KMC were doing?
What positive achievements will come out their extremely expensive visit to one of the most expensive cities of the world?? Will these gentlemen make an effort to improve the condition of Karachi city which is one of the filthiest cities of the world.
It will be interesting to know how much money was spent on the air travel, transport, hotel accommodation and food etc???
After long time trying to get info. I came up with some interesting facts! The governor had ordered everyone getting rooms and cars to pay on their own. Also the governor hired his own car at his own expense for three days. The British gov. figures were very impressed with the delegation and were surprised that no aid was being asked unlike other leaders and Primeminister’s. It was a successful visit according to the British and Pakistani side. The governor spent 5 days in Glasgow, edinburgh and Bradford for official purposes only.
Excellent tour and what a great initiative by the governor. If people were enjoying at the same time it’s no harm ”mr.Observer’. Especially if they were paying for the trip on their own despite it being an official agenda I wish zardari and others were more like the governor. Salute to him!!’
