Polio campaign kicks off in Hyderabad

A three day Polio Eradication Campaign kicked off on Monday in all four talukas of Hyderabad district with an objective to ensure a hundred percent coverage of immunization of anti-polio drops to the children of less than five years of age.
The District Health Officer (DHO) Hyderabad Dr Muhammad Aslam Pechuho informed that anti-polio drops were being administered to a total of 288565 children in all 52 Union Councils of Hyderabad City, Latifabad, Qasimabad and Hyderabad Rural Talukas of Hyderabad district.
“The health department has formed 704 mobile vaccination teams which are visiting door to door in all 52 Union Councils of the district and immunizing anti-polio drops to under age children,” he said.
He also informed that anti-polio drops were also being administered to children at 87 fixed vaccination centres and 35 others centres which had been set up at the transit points of the district.
He said that the entire polio eradication campaign was being carried out unde the supervision of seven talukas supervisors, 168 area incharges and Union Councils Medical Officers. “The representatives of WHO, UNICEF, Deputy Commissioner and higher officers of Health Department are also monitoring the campaign,” he added. He called upon the people to extend their full cooperation to the vaccination teams and get their children of less than five years of age vaccinated against polio. “The people can contact at Toll Free No: 0800- 12012 in case the vaccination teams could not reach any area,” he said.
