Peace and Harmony Network Pakistan arranged a roundtable conference on Tuesday that was addressed by elected and political leadership, Islamic scholars and representatives from Christian, Hindu and Sikh religions.

The conference passed two resolutions which stressed the end of sectarian or ethnic discrimination and urged the people from different religions to restore compassion, respect and tolerance among one another so that the society might be called a balanced one.

Media Coordinator to president Naveed Chaudhry, Punjab Parliamentary Secretary for Health Dr Saeed Elahi, Member of Punjab Assembly Dr Samia Amjad, Peace and Harmony Network Pakistan Chairperson Maulana Zubair Abid, Coordinator Javaid William and other notables attended and addressed the meeting.

Naveed Chaudhry said the service of humanity must not be ignored and added that the government was also going to take some initiatives regarding interfaith harmony. “We should end duality and adopt teachings of Islam so that we may be able to create an atmosphere where everyone might have religious freedom.”

On the occasion, Dr Saeed Elahi said that the religion must be used to end differences among the masses. He said that such meetings and initiatives are of much importance to create awareness among people. Dr Samia Amjad said that the definition of literacy must be revised at the government level. She said the emancipation of women is also very important to bring positive changes in the society.

“We are badly in need of interfaith harmony as ignorance is at its peak today,” said Maulana Zubair Abid, who is also heading the Pakistan Ulema Mushaikh Council. “We should sit with all and go door to door to spread the message of peace and harmony,” he suggested.

About the Peace and Harmony Network Pakistan, Javaid William informed the gathering that this organisation was an initiative to bring peace and harmony in the society. He said that all efforts being done had no political background and the only purpose behind was to develop a social connection.
