The tribal people must be given a free hand to decide their fate, instead of being “blackmailed in the name of artificial reforms”, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Fazlur Rehman said on Sunday. Addressing a jirga at Nishtar Hall, Fazl said the government was not authorised to resume NATO supplies because after the Salala attack, Raymond Davis and the Abbottabad incidents, it was decided in the All Parties Conference that all verbal agreements with the US would be repealed and a written draft would be prepared for future relations with the US. He said the government was not authorised to resume NATO supplies before drafting a written agreement with the US government, adding that the government’s decision to resume NATO supplies was wrong.
Fazl said the JUI-F would accept the decision of the jirga. The JUI-F chief said drone attacks in the Tribal Areas were also the result of wrong policies of the government. He said Pakistan had suffered a great loss due to the war against terrorism. “It is very strange that the US is calling Pakistan a terrorist when it is showering bombs on us,” Fazl added. MNA Munir Orakzai, Senator Saleh Shah, MNA Maulana Qasim Shah, MNA Maulana Abdul Malik and other elders addressed the jirga.
