Prisoners to get royal treatment during Ramadan

Special efforts have been made on the direction of Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif in all jails for immaculate arrangements for proper Sehr and Iftar of Muslim prisoners during Ramadan and to ensure the provision of hygienic food in accordance with jail manuals, Punjab Inspector General Prisons Farooq Nazeer said on Sunday.
He said over 50,000 under-trial prisoners and convicts, confined in 30 jails across the province will observe fast during the holy month of Ramadan.
Special lectures on Islamic values will be delivered to prisoners by religious personalities at jail mosques on daily basis.
The IG said divisional commissioners, DCOs, district session judges, RPOs, CPOs and DPOs had also been requested to pay frequent surprise visits to check the arrangements and standard of food.
Nazeer said all doctors posted in the jails had also been directed to check the quality of food before it was cooked and served. He said all range DIGs and superintendents of central headquarters jails throughout the province had been directed to check quality of food during surprise visits and take stock of the arrangements, especially security measures inside and outside the prisons. DSPs and ASPs were also directed to be present in the jails during Sehr and Iftar timings.
