Inspector General Punjab Police Hai Muhammad Habib Ur Rehman directed police to further beef up security during the holy month of Ramadan and intensify round the clock patrolling.
Talking to APP on Sunday, he said on the special directive of Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif all police heads across the province had been directed to chalk out a comprehensive security plan. He added that the programme also included additional deployment of police force at all sensitive areas and mosques during Fajr and Taraveeh prayers, especially at important shopping plazas and commercial markets to avert any untoward incident.
He said police officers had also been directed to make surprise visits to different areas and police stations and personally monitor the performance of their subordinates. He warned that DPO, SDPO and SHO concerned would be held responsible for any negligence.
Rehman said he would himself conduct surprise visits to various police stations and negligent police staff would be placed under suspension.
In Lahore, over 150 squads of Elite Force commandoes with sophisticated weapons in addition to heavy contingents of police have been deployed on patrolling. Capital City Police Officer Muhammad Aslam Tareen told APP that special security arrangements had been made to maintain law and order and check any untoward incident in the provincial metropolis. Giving details, he said foolproof measures had also been taken to seal and cordon off the entire city in case of any emergency. He said other mobile teams of police force would continue to carry out round the clock patrolling in their respective jurisdictions. He said all mobile teams would coordinate with each other on their positions of patrolling and inform the additional SP, SSP and DIG concerned about the latest situation.
