Lauding the role of Non-governmental Organisations (NGOs) to mitigate the miseries of flood affectees in times of devastated floods, senior journalists from local and international media underlined the need that NGOs were further needed to step up efforts to rehabilitate the floods affectees. They expressed these views at a focused group meeting of senior journalists” arranged by Action Aid Pakistan here the other day. In his opening remarks, Action Aid Country Director Jamal Ahmad said in this era of growing challenges print as well as electronic media had been playing a highly significant role to create awareness among various segments of society. “For a democratic state, media plays a multi-dimensional role to have check on various government organizations on the one hand and on the other it is a source of information to relay message in greater national interests,” Jamal added. Action Aid follows a Human Rights Based Approach (HRBA) in its programme and policy work. We believe that human beings are entitled to a few inalienable rights which must be respected and honored. We facilitate people in developing linkages with respective government departments who are responsible to deliver them basic amenities of life.
Action Aid believes in long term commitments with the poorest of poor people it work with. It can be exemplified by an instance that Action Aid Pakistan is one of the few organizations who is working with earthquake affected people of Azad Jammu and Kashmir and KPK since 2005. Action Aid believes in People’s Action to End Poverty therefore as a Federation, Action Aid has pledged to the people (across the world), ‘By 2017 we will have built effective risk reduction and resilience systems and capacities in over 5,000 communities. Similarly by 2017, at least five million people experiencing disasters or conflicts will have been assisted in ways which respect and strengthen rights, support recovery of livelihoods, empower women and promote solutions for long term change.’
