Taiwan’s Evergreen Group this month will take delivery of the first of 20 container vessels it ordered from South Korea’s Samsung Heavy Industries for $2.06 billion, an official said Monday.
Delivery of the 8,000-TEU (twenty-foot equivalent) L-type container fleet to Evergreen Marine, the world’s fourth largest shipping firm, is scheduled to be completed in 2015, the official said.
Evergreen has ordered another 10 ships of the same type from Taiwan’s leading shipyard CSBC Corp for $1.03 billion, with the first delivery due in September 2013.
Evergreen operates a fleet of 150 container ships, around 70 of them being chartered.
