Hafiz Muhammad Saeed, one of the world’s most wanted militant chiefs, has told Pakistani leaders they should aspire to be more like David Cameron and Boris Johnson, according to The Daily Telegraph.
Hafiz Saeed, who has a $10million US bounty on his head, declared his admiration for the Tory politicians when he lodged a petition to the Lahore High Court calling for public officials in Pakistan to tone down their privileged lifestyles. According to Telegraph, Saeed wrote in the petition that while Pakistan’s political elite were ‘living like kings and princes in palatial government houses,’ Britain’s prime minister lived in a four-bedroom flat. “When the sun never set on the British Empire, the chief executive of that great country lived in the same house of a few marlas in a small street. “That is truly Islamic, that is like following the Sunnah of the Holy Prophet (peace upon him),” he added. According to Saeed, President Asif Ali Zardari travelled to Britain recently by private jet paid for by the Pakistani state. Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, who became prime minister last month, is also reported to have had a helipad installed at his Islamabad home. But Saeed believes they should be leading their lives more like the mayor of London, Boris Johnson, who is known for cycling to work, and Cameron, who also used a bike regularly before becoming Prime Minister. According to Saeed, travelling on trains and buses is a more ‘Islamic’ way of living. But despite looking up to Cameron and Johnson, Saeed is the founder of Lashkar-e-Taiba – a terrorist group which has attacked Indian troops in Kashmir. In May, the US offered $10 million for information over his alleged role in the 2008 Mumbai attacks which killed more than 166 people.
