Shutter-down strike is being observed today (Saturday) across Balochistan including its capital city on a call by Awami National Party (ANP) against Friday bloodshed.
Meanwhile, at least 10 workers of ANP were injured when unidentified gunmen opened fire at a party gathering on Zarghoon road.
The commercial areas and other business centres of Quetta including Liaquat Bazaar, Jinnah Road, Abdus Sattar Road were closed with less than routine traffic being witnessed on roads.
Meantime, the ANP also announced three-day mourning against the terrorist incident. There was security high alert in the city with security agencies on mark around the city to avert any untoward situation.
The strike was marked also outside Quetta in areas including Pishin, Kuchlak and Chaman on the ANP’s call with shutters of shops pulled down.
The Pashtun Students Federation senior vice president and five others were killed and at least 22 people injured on Friday in Kuchlak, suburb area of Quetta, where a bomb went off near the venue of public meeting of the Awami National Party.
The injured included the ANP Provincial President Aurangzeb Kasi, his wife and some other party activists. A seven-year-old girl, who was passing through the area at the time of the explosion, is also among the dead.
Expressing grief over the killings and condemning the Kuchlak massacre, Pakhtunkhwa Mili Awami Party, Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F), Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Anjuman Tajiran (traders’ organisation) announced complete backing for the strike.
