Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Friday received a shock as the Calcutta High Court issued a contempt notice against him and other officials over an incident in which a 10-year-old student of internationally famous Visva Bharati University-affiliated school was made to lick urine as punishment for bed-wetting. Manmohan Singh is the chancellor of the university. A division bench headed by the chief judge of the court heard a public interest litigation which pointed out Visva Bharati, founded by Asia’s first Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore, has violated the court’s earlier directive by inflicting corporal punishment on the child and issued the contempt notice.
The incident occurred on July 7 at the university-affiliated school located at Bolpur in Birbhum district in eastern India’s state of West Bengal 160 km from the state capital here. The traumatised young girl since then has been refusing to attend school and there has been outrage throughout India. The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has condemned the incident, labelling it “barbaric”.

  1. There is a very common trend in the politicians all over the world, but corruption and making money through illegal ways by these politicians in the Asian countries is a common factor, which can only be eliminated by the respected courts in these countries. In Pakistan to hide and give protection to the corrupted polticians, the PPP and its alliance have created and established the worst traditions in the world by approving these non-senses and undemocratic amendments through these recources which are not good.India is a big claimer and champion of democracy, we will see that Mr.Mohan sngh will resign gently from his post within couple of day not like Pakistan dirty politics that the Central government gives him protection.Sorry,we do not learn anything from India.

    • He should resign from Vice Chancellor's post of the university. He is holding many honourary positions and it is one of them but he does not run day to day affairs of those organizations. He can not be held responsible for the incident. If a constable shoots an innocent person in rage, you dont fire the Director General of Police.

  2. It looks like this court has a bone to pick with the PM in the same fashion the CJ of Pakistan has with the President

  3. This just doesnt get anymore hilarious. I say bring the british back – we were both better off under their ghulami!

  4. He was served the notice because of his ceremonial position as the chancellor of the University, not because he is the PM. Accordingly, the worst punishment (though it won't come to that) will be that MMS may step down from the position of chancellor of that university, does not effect his PM ship.

      • Typing in all caps, making no sense or any rational argument. I can see who is the 'khisiyani billi' here.

  5. Moron, what is your point ? Why it is hard for you to understand simple logic ? He is not facing any charges in the capacity of making any decision as Prime Minister of country. Go get some sleep. Rational thinking was never part of Pakistani mindset. get some more advice from the cat

  6. Sardar Jee do not follow the steps of zardari otherwise you will have to alret and ready to make changes in the rules of our constition by parlaiment as it had been done in Pakistan to hide the corruptions commited by the politicians.
