Dhaka court hearing postponed

Pakistan will have to wait for another day before the fate of Bangladesh’s proposed tour of Pakistan is confirmed after a hearing in Dhaka court was postponed due to a change in the bench.
According to a Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) official, a decision on the team’s tour to Pakistan has now been postponed indefinitely. The BCB confirmed a tour comprising two matches in April but the plan had to be called off late after a ruling by the Dhaka High Court, following a petition by two locals citing security apprehensions about Pakistan.
The petition was granted and a four-week stay was extended until the hearing on July 12. However, according to the BCB spokesperson, the hearing was postponed for an indefinite period, putting further doubt on the scheduling of the tour.
“There was a change in the bench which was hearing the case,” BCB spokesperson Rabeed Imam was quoted as saying. “The case could not be discussed as a new judge will now examine it. The hearing has been extended and we are yet to know the new schedule. Hopefully we will get it in a couple of days.”
BCB Chairman Mustafa Kamal last month renewed hopes of the tour during a meeting with PCB chief Zaka Ashraf on the sidelines of the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) annual conference, expressing interest in sending the team. According to a report, the BCB also changed its lawyer and hired high profile counsel to fight the case.
