A staff member of Pakistan Today’s IT department, Muhammad Usman, was robbed in the Garhi Shahu area when he was returning home late on Thursday night. Usman said he was passing through Garhi Shahu when four men on two motorbikes intercepted him near the Garhi Shahu flyover. He said the men showed him a rifle, which seemed like a Klashnikov, and demanded he hand over his possessions.
Usman said he was carrying Rs 20,000 in cash, a mobile phone worth Rs 15,000 and a computer hard disk worth around Rs 8,000, which the robbers got hold of and fled. He said two officers of Muhafiz Police Squad passed along the road on their motorcycle as the robbery was in session, but they did not bother to stop and check the commotion. When contacted, the duty officer at Garhi Shahu police station said the entire force of the police station led by the SHO was taking part in a special raid, but “they would look into the incident”. The police had not registered an FIR [First Information Report] of the incident when this report was made at 2am.
