President Asif Ali Zardari gave on Friday formal approval for the appointment of Fakhruddin G. Ibrahim as the Chief Election Commission following the advice of the Prime Minister.
The parliamentary committee had unanimously appointed Fakhruddin G. Ibrahim as the new Chief Election Commissioner to ensure free‚ fair and transparent elections.
Justice Mian Shakirullah Jan was named acting CEC by Chief Justice Ifrtikhar Muhammad Chaudhry after the retirement of Justice (retd) Hamid Ali Mirza on March 23.
The Election Commission has been completed with the appointment of the new CEC as its four members from the provinces have already been appointed on the recommendation of the parliamentary committee.
