The Supreme Court on Thursday ordered Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf to write the letter to Swiss authorities and gave 12 days to submit his reply in NRO implementation case.
A three-member bench of the SC comprising Justice Asif Saeed Khosa, Justice Nasirul Mulk and Justice Azmat Saeed Sheikh heard the case.
Rejecting the attorney general’s arguments, the court ordered that it had initiated contempt proceedings against Yousuf Raza Gilani for not implementing its directives.
The AG told the court that the order had been conveyed to the prime minister, adding that the federal cabinet and the prime minister would make a collective decision regarding the issue of writing the letter to Swiss authorities.
The SC made it clear that the court will take severe action in accordance with the constitution in case of non-compliance.
