District Population Welfare Officer (DPO) Manzoor Ali Lund has called for maintaining a rational proportion between population growth and resources to upgrade the living standard. Talking to this scribe here on Wednesday, he stressed the need to provide equal opportunities to both men and women in every sphere of life and remove all barriers against women’s equal participation in social, cultural, economic and political activities. The World Population Day observed on July 11 is an event which aims at elevating awareness of global population issues. The event was organised by the governing council of the United Nations Development Programme in 1989. It was stimulated by the public interest in Five Billion Day on July 11, 1987, the date on which the world’s population reached around five billion people.
