Bicycle bomb kills one in Karachi

A man, Anasr Khan, was killed and 23 people were injured on Wednesday when a bomb planted on a bicycle went off at a bus stop in Hub Chowki, an industrial area of Hub tehsil of Balochistan and a border town near Karachi The target of the attack appeared to be a bus from the national space agency SUPARCO (Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission) which was taking workers home, officials said. A large contingent of police and Rangers rushed to the spot and cordoned off the area. According to initial investigations, the bomb was planted on a bicycle which was placed along the road. Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) Amir Farooqui told reporters that several passengers had been injured in the blast, apparently targeting the SUPARCO bus.
He said four of the injured were in critical condition. He said nature of the blast could not be ascertained so far but the police had found wreckage of a motorcycle on the spot. DIG West Akram Naeem Broka told reporters that the bomb weighed about three to five kilogrammes. He said further investigations were underway and the perpetrators would be arrested soon. Sources claimed that terrorist organisations in Balochistan usually attacked vehicles on the route and security forces and government employees were their usual targets.
“Terrorist organisations from Balochistan may be responsible for the attack,” a police official said.
