President Asif Ali Zardari has directed authorities to set up more check posts of police, Rangers and FC in the troubled areas of Karachi, where ethnic, sectarian and political violence have claimed hundreds of lives.
Chairing a law and order meeting here on Tuesday, the president also ordered installment of scanners at all entry and exit points of the city to ensure strict surveillance.
The Sindh government meanwhile dismissed as “baseless” the reservations being expressed by a rival group regarding Zulfiqarabad project.
In addition, the president also presided over a separate meeting to review the chronic energy crisis. He directed authorities to supply furnace oil to power houses so that electricity generation could begin.
Water and Power Minister Ahmed Mukhtar briefed the meeting about the efforts being made to contain the energy crisis.
Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah, provincial ministers and others attended the meeting.
Interacting with reporters, Sindh Information Minister Sharjil Memon said Zulfiqarabad will become the country’s modern city and economic hub.
