Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf has said that the achievement of $25 billion exports target by the government during FY2011-12 is a great success in view of the global economic crunch when exports are registering a decreasing trend worldwide. This speaks volumes about the potency of ‘trade not aid’ policy of the present government, he said.
The Prime Minister expressed these views while talking to Amin Faheem, senior Minister for Commerce, who called on him at the PM House here on Wednesday.
The Prime Minister urged the Ministry of Commerce to keep up the export momentum, adding that enhanced market access to the Pakistani products by the European Union from 2014 onwards would be instrumental in further increasing exports.
The Prime Minister said that this success is the outcome of emphasis the government has been placing on promoting trade relations with the neighbouring countries and beyond.
The Prime Minister said that Currency Swap Agreements that Pakistan has signed with China and Turkey would surely give requisite impetus to the increasing of export volume to these countries.
The Prime Minister appreciated the efforts of Ministry of Commerce under the leadership of Minister Amin Faheem in achieving the ambitious export target.
The Minister for Commerce told the Prime Minister that his Ministry is committed to explore all avenues aimed at increasing trade by working on diversification of export items.
