Former Federal Law Minister Babar Awan, joined the chorus opposing the new Contempt of Court law and dual nationality Bill 2012. Awan said the dual nationality bill will spawn internal and external problems for national integrity.
Talking to the media, Awan said those who put together the Constitution, banned dual citizens in parliament after a great deal of deliberations. He further added if this ban is lifted, then Afghans, Burmese and Bengali immigrants may step become legislators.
He added that the oath of dual loyalties is not allowed in any country. Awan demanded that perks and privileges sanctioned to former premiers with dual nationalities, should be retracted from them.
The new law of contempt, he maintained, is in his favor; however, it stands in clash with the Constitution, adding he does not support trimming the powers of any institutions for personal gains.
Awan stressed that the opportunity for passing a bill on contempt of court was wasted by a Munshi, who wrote up the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO).
Benazir acceded to the NRO in light of national interest, but, it developed into a slur thanks to the inefficiency of that munshi. Awan added that the new contempt law is a blend of contradictions and is destined to have an NRO-like fate.

  1. He is right though ! seem sanity has dawned on him bcz his license to practice need to be revived & hence, trying to appease the judiciary for his personal benefit.

  2. I do not approve of the derogatory reference to burmese, bangladeshi and afghan refugees. but i am sorry to say that anyone including ones you have ridiculed may be able to do a better job than current lot and many lots that have come before them.

  3. Awan is ripe for the picking. He would make a great mouthpiece for any political party. His license is suspended and he can't make a living. He has fallen from grace but he has tasted the good life. He would want to get the same lifestyle back and would do anything to feel important again. A few crore would buy (rent) his loyalties for the time being. Nothing wrong with having a strategic advantage over your opponents. Besides, Awan has been privy to the internal working of ppp and if he can bring out any dirt on the slime ball ppp leadership, it would help the country to get rid of them.
