Hundreds of heavy trucks entering and leaving the industrial area every day are causing air and noise pollution in the capital and disturbance for the residents.
A resident of the industrial areas told APP that complaints of noise, dust and smoke from the area were steadily increasing with the each passing day. Shahid Ali who has been working in an automobile painting shop in the sector for over 10 years is an asthma patient. He attributes his problem to the heavy presence of smoke and dust in the industrial area. He said hundreds of trucks enter and leave the area, adding, “My shop is located at Potohar Road and over 200 trucks use this road daily”. Aslam Khan, a resident of Sector I-9, also complained that scores of trucks that use the road daily create a lot of noise and smoke pollution. Muhammad Tahir, another I-10 resident, said one could easily see layers of smoke in the air. He said throat, nasal and lung problems were quite common in the area.
Doctors warn that noise and air pollution is injurious to human health. Dr Aftab Ali Malik who works at Polyclinic Hospital remarked that the smoke emitted by trucks could cause respiratory infections, exacerbations of bronchial asthma and high blood pressure. He warned that smoke also contained carcinogens that could cause cancer. The doctor said the dust could cause nasal allergy, asthma and noise hearing problems.
Graffiti ban violators being booked in Rawal Town: The Rawal Town tehsil municipal administration (TMA), under a special campaign, has removed wall chalking, banners and posters from the city streets and main roads of the town.
According to details, on the special directives of Rawal Town Administrator Saif Anwar Jappa, the municipal administration had started the campaign to remove graffiti mainly from Benazir Bhutto Road (Murree Road), Saidpur Road, Sixth Road, Liaquat Road, Satellite Town and other main city areas. Special teams, under the supervision of Town Officer Regulation Tauseef Malik, were given the task and have removed wall-chalking, banners and posters from all areas. Special squads constituted in this regard removed wall-chalking mainly from the both sides of Benazir Bhutto Road (Murree Road) from Mareer Chowk to Faizabad. The staff concerned was also sent to erase wall-chalking at Sixth road, Fifth road, Fourth-B Road and Saidpur road, the Rawal Town spokesman said while talking to APP. The Administrator Rawal Town urged the citizens to cooperate with the Municipal Administration staff to make the city neat and clean so that the residents could be provided a healthy and beautiful environment.
