Provincial Minister for Information Sharjeel Memon has said that a public report on human rights is a blow to the Punjab government. The report stated that cases of kidnapping, criminal assault and collective rape have increased in Punjab. In a statement issued on Monday, Memon said that the report had exposed the claims of good governance in Punjab. During the last year, 7,752 cases of kidnapping were reported in Pakistan, of which 7,251 were committed in Punjab. He said that the plight of women is horrible in Punjab in comparison with other provinces. It is unfortunate that 32 percent cases of rape and criminal assault have been reported in Punjab, with the crime rate being 16 percent more than other provinces. Memon advised the Sharif Brothers to pay attention towards improving the law and order situation in Punjab. He said, “Tent camps can not help the brothers as it will not gain sympathies of the people, but rather they should work sincerely. He said that Sharif should learn the lessons of democracy from the workers of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and talking about unnecessary change is irrelevant. Memon said that dengue fever was a natural phenomenon but it could be effectively controlled if adequate measures were adopted. Rather than protecting the people, the Punjab government was looting wealth. Fake sprays and medicines were bought and provided to local hospitals which resulted in the deaths of hundreds innocent people. The minister further said that the strike of young doctors was pre-planed. Due to the protests, many innocent patients lost their lives and the FIR of these deaths should be lodged against the chief minister.
