The death anniversary of Fatima Jinnah was observed on Monday. Ceremonies paying homage to Madr-e-Millat were held in different cities across the country. Speakers paid rich tribute to Ms. Jinnah who had spared her entire life for Pakistan. According to the speakers, Jinnah had inspired women across the world due to her role in the creation of Pakistan. It should be mentioned that Fatima Jinnah, the founding mother of Pakistan and the younger sister of Muhammad Ali Jinnah was a dental surgeon, biographer and a political leader. She was born in 1893. Due to her brother – despite strident family opposition – Jinnah received excellent early education. Jinnah joined the Bandra Convent in 1902. In 1919, she was admitted to the highly reputable University of Calcutta where she attended Dr Ahmad Dental College. Fatima Jinnah initially lived with her brother, until she got married in 1918 to Rutanbai. At the time of her marriage, she was also a practicing dentist. Upon Rutanbai’s death in February 1929, Jinnah wound up her clinic, moved into Jinnah’s bungalow, and took charge of his house; thus beginning the life-long companionship that lasted until Quaid-e-Azam’s death on September 11, 1948. She died in Karachi on July 8, 1967 due to heart failure.
