WASA asked to buy generators to control water shortage

The CM has asked the WASA officials to should perform their duties with commitment and dedication. He said special arrangements should be made for the supply of water during the sacred month of Ramadan as the water consumption increases in the holy month. He directed that complaint cells be set up regarding WASA at the level of provincial constituencies in Lahore and they should remain in contact with the central complaint cell.
He was holding a meeting to review the de-silting campaign of drains, availability of drinking water and the arrangements for monsoon. Third-party audit report on de-silting of drains was also presented in the meeting in which this process was declared as satisfactory. Provincial Minister Chaudhry Abdul Ghafoor, member national and provincial assembly, secretaries of various departments, heads of development institutions and Commissioner and the DCO were present.
Addressing the meeting, the CM asked WASA to buy generators immediately to ensure smooth supply of water.
He said WASA should also arrange mobile workshop so that the machinery could be maintained in working condition. He said the system of supply of water should be reviewed and an effective plan be submitted to him for the replacement of rusted pipelines. He directed WASA MD that all manholes should be covered and an effective system be devised for checking the incidents of the theft of the covers of manholes. He said de-silting process of drain should be continued throughout the year and a system should be evolved for this purpose. He said that helpline 1334 for addressing complaints of the citizens relating to WASA is fully functional and the people can contact this helpline so that their grievances could be addressed. He directed that complaint cells be set up in every provincial constituency in Lahore and they should be given wide publicity. He said that an effective system of feedback should be devised for seeking the views of the masses regarding monsoon arrangements so that it could be ascertained how far these measures have proved effective.
MD WASA informed the meeting that all tube wells in Lahore are fully operational and 32 new tube wells will also start operation before the onset of Ramadan. He said that supply of drinking water through tankers is also continuing in case of complaints. He said 600 newly-recruited sanitary workers have been deputed in different areas. Local Government secretary informed that relief camps have been established at different locations for providing help to the citizens during rains. Heads of different development institutions and provincial secretaries also informed the meeting about monsoon arrangements.
