Mureed Qureshi joins PPP

Makhdoom Mureed Hussain Qureshi, brother of former foreign minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf leader Shah Mehmood Qureshi, joined the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) on Sunday. Mureed made the formal announcement of joining the PPP at Qadir Pur Rawan while addressing a large number of people that had gathered to welcome former prime minister Yousaf Raza Gilani on his arrival to Multan. Sources said Mureed called on Yousaf Raza Gilani in Islamabad a few days ago. Earlier, he received the former prime minister at Khanewal Railway Station in person. Reports said Mureed had been annoyed with his elder brother for ignoring him and rather fielding his elder son, Zain Qureshi, for the NA-148 by-polls. However, the Shah Mahmood Qureshi had been able to mend fences with his brother who has considerable influence in the NA-148. Purportedly, Mureed has been informed by the PPP leadership that he would be given an advisory role in the PPP-led federal government and awarded huge development funds to create goodwill for him and the PPP.
