Death anniversary of Madr-e-Millat, Fatima Jinnah was observed on Monday.
Ceremonies and references to pay homage to Madr-e-Millat were held in different cities across the country under the auspicious of various organisations.
The speakers paid rich tribute to Fatima Jinnah who spared her entire life for Pakistan. They said that it was the Madr-e-Millat who inspired the women for playing active role in national politics for the creation of Pakistan.
It should be mentioned that Fatima Jinnah, the founding mother of Pakistan and also the younger sister of Muhammad Ali Jinnah was a dental surgeon, biographer, and stateswoman.
She was born in 1893. Due to her brother’s keen interest, and despite strident family opposition, Fatima received excellent early education.
Fatima Jinnah joined the Bandra Convent in 1902. In 1919 she got admitted to the highly competitive University of Calcutta where she attended Dr. Ahmad Dental College.
After she qualified, Jinnah went along with her idea of opening a dental clinic in Bombay and helped her set it up in 1923. Miss Fatima Jinnah initially lived with her brother for about eight years till 1918, when he got married to Rutanbai.
Upon Rutanbai’s death in February 1929, Miss Jinnah wound up her clinic, moved into Jinnah’s bungalow, and took charge of his house; thus beginning the life-long companionship that lasted till Jinnah’s death on September 11, 1948.
Fatima Jinnah died in Karachi on July 8, 1967. The official cause of death was heart failure, but rumors persist that she was murdered by the same group who killed then Prime Minister Liaquat Ali Khan.
