The Committee on the appointment of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) reached on Monday a consensus on Justice (retd) Fakhruddin Ibrahim for the position of CEC, according media sources.
Khursheed Shah, bipartisan parliamentary committee head, confirmed that Fakhruddin had been agreed upon for the post of CEC.
Ibrahim’s name had been proposed by PML-N along with Justice Shakirullah Jan, Justice (retd) Nasir Aslam Zahid for the post. The government, on the other hand, had proposed Justice (retd) Munir Sheikh, Justice (retd) Amiul Mulk Mengel and Justice (retd) Zahid Qurban Alvi.
This is a wise decision. Rare from PPP government.
