Six killed, 50 injured in Jhang road accident

At least six people were killed while more than 50 others were wounded when two passenger buses collided head-on here on Saturday.
According to police, two recklessly driven and over speeding buses, each fully packed with passengers, were heading to Lahore and Dera Ismail Khan, when they collided at Bhakkar Road near Jhang bypass.
As a result of the collision, four persons died on the spot while more than 50 others sustained injuries.
Police, rescue teams and local residents rushed to the accident site, and shifted the injured to various hospitals where two more succumbed to their injuries, raising the death toll to six. The deceased included a security guard and the conductor of one of the buses.
Doctors said the condition of eight injured passengers was critical, adding that the death toll might rise further.
The injured passengers said that over-speeding and careless driving caused the accident. The police took both the vehicles in custody and started investigation.
Meanwhile, in another road accident on Kot Lakhpat Road in Lahore, a passenger van hit a motorcycle, killing four persons on the spot. The van driver fled from the crime scene.
Elsewhere, near the Chakri Interchange in Islamabad, two Lahore-bound passenger buses from Islamabad and Murree collided, and the bus driver died on the spot. The Rescue teams reached the scene and shifted them to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) Hospital, Islamabad.
