The Punjab police force suspended around 250 officials on Saturday for failure to reduce their weight. Inspector General (IG) Punjab Habibur Rehman had ordered 175,000 personnel not to allow their waistlines to exceed 38 inches and reduce their weight by July 7. When the deadline passed, those unable to do so were suspended from their operational duties. Officials who were able to reduce their waists by 2-4 inches were, however, given an extension in the deadline. Police sources say new young officials may be recruited to cover up for those suspended.
