The Punjab Emergency Service of Rescue-1122 is preparing a draft legislation on the fire prevention and community safety aimed at minimising risks to life and property besides impeding the increasing number of fire incidents. The draft legislation, which is being finalized in consultation with the Strathclyde Fire and Rescue Service of the United Kingdom, will be forwarded to the quarters concerned for approval. The cooperation is the part of a memorandum of understanding signed between the two emergency services of UK and Pakistan. “An effective legislation was need of the hour as the Rescue teams dealt with more than 34,000 fire incidents, mostly caused by poor safety arrangements in commercial and high-rise buildings, during the last seven years,” official sources in the emergency service told APP.
