Deputy Commissioner Agha Shahnawaz Babar called the officers of all concerned departments to find out the failure in rooting out polio despite numerous polio eradication campaigns in the district.
There is a need of sincere efforts to prepare a comprehensive strategy for permanent eradication of polio disease from Hyderabad, the Deputy Commissioner emphasised. The commissioner expressed his thoughts while presiding over a meeting on Thursday regarding the arrangements of a polio eradication campaign. The drive will start from July 16 in all four talukas of Hyderabad district. Babar maintained that polio eradication was a national duty and the government was committed to rooting out the disease from the country at any cost.
Under the plan, special cards would be issued to vaccinators on mobile duty in order to ensure their attendance and if any employee is found absent, strict action will be taken, he added
He asked the Hyderabad Administrator to write letters to Pesh Imams of the mosques requesting them to motivate the people in getting children under five vaccinated against polio in order to save their future. He also asked the officers of the health department to seek cooperation of the notables of the areas and motivate parents in this respect.
The District Health Focal Person Hyderabad Dr Ashraf while briefing the meeting informed that 288,565 children under the age of five would be vaccinated against polio in Hyderabad City, Latifabad, Qasimabad and Hyderabad Rural Talukas from July 16 to 18, 2012.
The vaccination against polio will be carried out via 704 mobile vaccination teams, he said and added that vaccinations would also be carried out at 87 fixed points and 35 transit points of the district.
Sindh Special Education Dept launches website: The Adviser to the CM Sindh on Special Education Imtiaz Ahmed Shaikh on Thursday said that the Sindh Special Education Department had launched its website.
He said that the government of Sindh was making every possible effort for the development of the Department of Special Education.
Secretary Special Education Syed Muhammad Ali Shah told that the website could be accessed at www.sped.gos.pk.
He said that the Department would welcome the contextual news, updates, feedback and digital resources from the people which should preferably be sent through emails to the Department’s Deputy Secretary.
The Deputy Secretary Aftab Ahmed Shaikh said that the first draft of the provincial policy for special education and welfare of special persons could also be viewed at the website.
CNG stations to remain closed for 24 hours from Saturday: All the CNG stations in Sindh would remain closed for 24 hours from 9am on Saturday (July 7) till 9am on Sunday (July 8), officials said on Thursday.
According to Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC), the company regretted the inconvenience which might be caused to the CNG consumers during the above notified 24 hours shut down period.
All the CNG stations in Sindh were closed for 24 hours from Thursday (July 5) due to a sudden fall in gas supply from Bhit gas field distribution system. But the company soon resumed gas supply from 6pm on Thursday due to Shab-e-Baraat.
